Our Academics
Here is an overview of what we are doing in class. Be sure to ask your student about their day and have them teach you about what they are doing. This is one of the best ways to reinforce what they are learning.
Literacy
In our crew we use Reading Horizons curriculum.. We will also be doing the Daily 5 during Language Arts rotations. This consists of Read to Self, Buddy Read, Listen to Reading, Word Work and Work on Writing. In addition we have guided reading groups and reading interventions. Students learn to be independent in their work and have opportunities to read with their peers. This is one of our favorite parts of the day!
Mathematics
It is OK to struggle!
It is critical that you allow your student to struggle. Please allow them to learn and apply grit as they do their math. For more information on what we are doing in math, click on the Math tab.
Writing
Writer's Workshop will be an opportunity for your student to learn the importance of being able to write well. We will write multiple pieces throughout the school that align with our current expedition. In Writer's Workshop we begin to really learn about and apply grit through the revision process.
Expedition
